VLTOR MUR Upper Receiver with Forward Assist
The MUR is a rigid Mil-Spec flat-top upper made to fit all AR15/M16 M4 rifles and carbines. The MUR was developed to give the customer a Mil-Spec correct upper receiver with a thicker wall, making the MUR upper receiver a stronger platform. This more rigid upper receiver will increase accuracy and reliability, while extending the life of the interfacing components. The MUR-1A model comes equipped with a shell deflector and forward assist. The MUR-1S comes with a one-piece machined shell deflector only.

Note
Due to VLTOR’s Lifetime Warranty, they advise that you do not remove or attempt to remove your shell deflector. The shell deflector is pinned in place during factory assembly. Their Lifetime Warranty covers all of their products as long as they are not modified in any way (i.e. disassembly).

VLTOR MUR Uppers exceed mil specification. They meet the minimum in that they will work with any additional upper component that also meets mil spec. There is one spec that most if not all manufacturers overlook/ignore and that is that there is (not sure what branches of the military actually require this) a call-out for a baked-on dry film lubrication coating on the inside of the receiver. That I know of, VLTOR (and my garage projects) is the only one doing this. Not many that purchase this receiver are going to know this fact and that in and of itself speaks to VLTORS dedication to excellence.
Next point I would like to make is that this receiver is forged. Forged is stronger, period. VLTOR not only provides a forged receiver but they go the extra step and add extra material to strategic locations that provide rigidity. That I know of, Bravo Company is the only other manufacturer doing this but they are taking away mass from other areas to accomplish the same thing, maintaining the same overall weight. I personally don’t like the fact that mass is removed from other areas to accomplish a goal of avoiding the addition of a miniscule amount of weight while increasing rigidity. We are talking about aluminum here and when you are talking about the upper receiver I feel like this just isn’t the place to try to save a couple ounces. VLTOR, that I know of, doesn’t take away from anywhere, only provides reinforcement.
This is my second project that ended up with a VLTOR upper on it and likely won’t be the last.
