Geissele Automatics Mid-Range Gas Gun MRGG, 20″ 6.5 Creedmoor, Black
The Geissele Mid-Range Gas Gun, (MRGG) is a part of a family of rifles called the Very Long-Range Semi-Automatic Sniper System, or VSASS.
The VSASS project started as a single weapon for a special requirement, but it quickly morphed into a family of rifles. The MRGG features the latest in weapon technology available exclusively from Geissele Automatics. This rifle chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor features a Geissele suppressor ready flash hider mounted to an in-house produced 20” barrel. The barrel is cold hammer forged from CRMOV steel and chrome lined to assist with barrel life and accuracy. The barrel is interchangeable between 6.5 creedmoor and 7.62×51 mm NATO at the user level.
The upper receiver is manufactured from aircraft grade aluminum, and is type 3 hard coat anodized. The ambidextrous charging handle allows it to be easily manipulated by left and right handed shooters. The charging handle design reduces exposure of gas to the shooters face by assisting in sealing the gaps between the receiver and charging handle.
At your fingertip and purpose-built for precision is the Super Semi-Automatic Enhanced (SSA-E) Trigger. The bolt carrier is machined and finished in our Nanoweapon Coating. The design features extended rails in the upper quadrants to reduce carrier tilt and promote smooth operation and feeding.
The completely free floated Super Modular Rail features full-length M-LOK compatible slots at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions as well as the upper and lower 45 degree quadrants. The rail is machined from aircraft grade aluminum, and is mil- type 3 hard coat anodized. The 12 o’clock top rail features a full-length M1913 Picatinny interface and is precisely machined for flatness across the length of the rail. This flatness is critical for ensuring co-aligned optic systems are perfectly in line with each other, thereby making this the ideal platform for shooting with night vision and thermal equipment.
The MRGG-S features a braided wire buffer spring. This design has 3 strands of wire which are wound together to form the spring. This design dampens high frequency vibration in the spring and allows for longer spring life. The weight and force curve of the spring were designed specifically for the MRGG. The bolt catch on the MRGG has been extended and slightly oversized to ease ambidextrous operation. The upper and lower paddles allow a left-handed shooter to engage them with their index finger which greatly simplifies operation of the weapon system.
The MRGG’s lower is precision machined from aircraft grade aluminum and finished in type 3 hard coat anodize. The lower features a flared magwell for easy magazine insertion. The trigger guard is oversized to allow easy trigger manipulation even with gloves. The MRGG-S features a mil-spec diameter receiver extension with a comb height and length of pull adjustment stock. It is compatible with any stock available which fits a mil-spec receiver extension (buffer tube).

Donald H. (verified owner) –
This rifle was my first order from Rooftop Defense. From pricing to communication and shipping- Sol and his team lived up to the hype and did not disappoint. Now for what you came to read.
My particular rifle came with a nice hard case that has wheels and is similar to a Pelican branded case, and there was a Geissele beanie inside (like on the Geissele website) that is green and has MK1 Mod 0 on the front.
The rifle screams quality. No wobble between the upper and lower receivers, though I have to use something to completely push the takedown pin through.
The bolt release on the right side (ambi) is extremely stiff but loosened with time.
The recoil is soft.
The accuracy? Well, I shot about 18 variants of factory ammunition and all but about three grouped under 1″ at 100 yards. The first group fired using Black Hills MK1200-C was under an inch, but after firing 200 rounds to break in the barrel the MK1200-C grouped at 0.33″ at 100 yards! 140 grain Federal Gold Medal Match (SMK and Center Strike) both had 4 holes touching but had a sj gle round that landed elsewhere making both groups right at 0.75″. If not for those two different flyers, the Federal GMM groups would have been on our with, if not better than, the M1200-C. Hornady Match 140 ELD-M was also 0.7″.
The groups were 5-round groups. K o ly fired one group per box, but I will continue accuracy testing using 10-round groups of the top 7 or so groups.
Expensive? Absolutely! Worth the price? We’ll, this rifle is undoubtedly the price of multiple mortgage payments for many people. However, if your funds allow, I believe you will be satisfied, but that’s solely based on my experience.
Lastly, I wanted the DDC color which wasn’t in stock, but the savings I received during the Labor Day sale (WAY LESS THAN MSRP) to buy the black was a no brainer for me and I have no regrets on the color.
Thank you, Sol, for answering my questions and for making big purchases affordable!!!!
