A faithful near clone of the Upper Receiver Group – Improved adopted by USASOC to replace the Block II
Built around a cold hammer-forged 11.5″ barrel, this upper receiver group is a tack driver and quite reliable, making it great for practical shooting. The MK16 Super Modular Rail lends itself to the end user being able to mount various accessories wherever necessary.
With the advent of the USASOC URGI, that quintessentially American silhouette has changed forever. The Geissele Super Modular Rail MK16 handguard, hammer forged barrel, and mid-length gas system work in concert for a package that delivers measurable increases in hit probability. Designed to take the full rigors of the new M855A1 (AB57) ammunition, the USASOC URGI also takes full advantage of its capabilities.
Once the USASOC URGI is installed on an existing system, it essentially makes for a brand-new weapon. This complete upper receiver group is a near-clone of the exact upper receiver group currently in service with USASOC.

This is more of a review of RTD rather than the URGI itself.
I’ve been wanting this upper badly and had been waiting since January to order it directly from Geissele—but it’s still not available on their site. I gave it a shot with Optics Planet on May 2nd, with an initial ship date of May 12th. That got pushed to the 23rd… then October. Tried Primary Arms too—nothing against PA—but the one I received had QC issues: gash marks and a misaligned fit. I returned it and am still waiting on a refund.
Then I found RTD. They shipped the same day, and I received it the very next day. Packaging and product were flawless. Since that first purchase, I’ve placed two more orders with them. Safe to say I’ve found my new go-to store.
